SAINT BENEDICT THE MOOR
CATHOLIC CHURCH
About Us
Saint Benedict the Moor Catholic Church is an African-American parish founded in 1946 by the Josephites religious order and located in the Northeast section of Washington, DC, at the edge of RFK Stadium. As of February 1, 2003, Saint Benedict the Moor Parish was returned to the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Washington.
In 1952, Cardinal O'Boyle dedicated the present structure, a combination church/hall and rectory. A convent and school under the care of the Oblate Sisters Of Providence and lay teachers was opened ten years later in 1962.
In 1978, a parish center known as the Imperial Room was opened, leaving the original church/hall structure exclusively for church services. If you are interested in renting the Imperial Room for a wedding or other special occasion, contact Mrs. Gloria Beasley at (202) 529-2359.
